A Mountain of Anime News Landed During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays present a wealth of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than checking the headlines: opening presents, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and using meditation skills to avoid yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you were able to do all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling announcements came out over the break, and just in case you missed some of them, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter further production. The show will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a positive development. Yet, the promotional image for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they could be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now everyone is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been going on for a while, and season 6 was another excellent entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season
Shortly after the airing of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara.
