Colts Battle Falcons in Berlin – NFL Week 10

Guten tag, fussball enthusiasts. Wie gehts? Alles klar I hope on this excellent early start to week 10 coming straight outta Deutschland. Berlin's Olympic Stadium to be precise where at 8.30am CST/9.30am EST and 2.30pm GMT the mighty Colts (7-2) take on the Atlanta Falcons (three wins and five losses). The fifth game played on German soil and the initial in the capital city.

Pre-match Highlights

When it comes to glittering attire that is an absolute belter from Katarina Witt on the opening flip. A slight fluff from the broadcast team there as we hear “which team got the coin flip?” from the commentator with an accidentally live microphone.

Well, the Colts have won the toss and have chosen to get the ball first. Daniel Jones and company will be taking the field soon. Can the quarterback recover after a difficult performance in their last game?

Not to be outdone the vocalist performing the US national anthem has some of the largest shoulder pads you are bound to notice. Loving the sartorial choices today. The game is about to start after a choir performance for the German anthem. Elegant.

Opening Period Gameplay

Scoreless at 13:30 in the first

Here we go! And we have early drama after Jonathan Taylor receives a short throw, gains 15 yards on the outside to the right then loses the ball … only for his center to recover the fumble with the recovery. Colts are in Falcons territory already.

Colts 0-0 Falcons 10:51, 1st quarter

And the drama keeps coming as the Colts go for it on 4th down. The risk doesn't work out as Josh Downs fails to catch a quick pass from Jones. Prior to the failed attempt Jessie Bates put a huge hit on tight end Mo Alie-Cox. The Falcons have come out fighting on defense as they try and snap their string of three losses. Next up Sauce Garner’s debut!

Touchdown Updates

First score: Colts lead 6-0 at 8:36

Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The Falcons player makes a crucial error, he was wide open but the ball just swishes through his hands. That moment reflects the first round pick’s career to date.

A disappointing start but it only deteriorates for the Atlanta as they turn over possession to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard mark. The Falcons quarterback is hunted down and can’t keep hold of the ball.

A nifty 22-yard run from Ashton Dulin sets the running back up to easily run for a touchdown on the next snap. The placekicker misses the point after attempt. Mistake.

Falcons respond: 6-7 at 6:07

The quarterback recovers from the turnover by marching his Falcons down the field for a score of their own. The wide receiver makes some chunky receptions to put them in the red zone then the defense opens up for the running back to saunter on to the goal line through the heart of the field for 13 yards. The running back finishes it off for a one-yard touchdown of his own. Advantage Atlanta.

Other Tenth Week Games

Additionally, the full slate starting at 12pm CST/1pm EST/6pm GMT (home teams listed first) is as follows:

  • (5-4) Panthers v New Orleans Saints (1-8)

  • (5-3) Chicago Bears v Giants (2-7)

  • (3-5) Texans v Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3)

  • (2-7) Dolphins v Bills (6-2)

  • (4-4) Minnesota Vikings v Ravens (3-5)

  • (1-7) Jets v Browns (2-6)

  • (6-2) Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Patriots (7-2)

What a feast. My pick for the best game is Minnesota and Baltimore playing out the top contest of the day.
