Congressional Democrats Unveil Most Recent Set of Epstein Images as Justice Department Time Limit Approaches
Committee
The House Oversight Committee has released a batch of approximately 70 photos obtained from the property of deceased adjudicated sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein.
This represents the latest in a series of release from a larger collection of over 95,000 photographs the body has obtained from Epstein's estate. It contains images of passages from the novel Lolita written across a female's body, and redacted pictures of female foreign passports.
This release occurs just hours before the 19th of December due date for the Department of Justice to release every documents connected to its probe into Epstein.
"These photos pose additional inquiries about what exactly the DOJ has in its holdings," said the ranking member of the committee, Robert Garcia.
Contents in the Photos Disclosed
Several of the photographs published on Thursday depict Epstein in discussion with academic and activist Noam Chomsky inside a private plane; Bill Gates positioned alongside a woman whose identity is redacted; Steve Bannon sitting at a desk opposite Epstein, and former Alphabet president Sergey Brin at a dinner gathering.
Investigative Body
These are the most recent wealthy, prominent individuals to be pictured in Epstein property photos disclosed by the committee - formerly disclosed images also show US President Donald Trump and ex-president Bill Clinton, as well as film director Woody Allen, ex- US treasury secretary Larry Summers, lawyer Alan Dershowitz, Andrew Mountbatton-Windsor, and others.
Appearing in the photos is is not considered evidence of any misconduct, and a number of the pictured figures have stated they were in no way participating in Epstein's illegal activity.
In a press release released with the image disclosure, Lawmakers on the US House Oversight Committee stated the Epstein estate's representatives did not provide background information or timings for the pictures.
"Photos were picked to offer the American people with transparency into a typical cross-section of the photographs acquired from the holdings, and to provide understanding into Epstein's network and his extremely alarming actions," the statement states.
Investigative Body
The release also contains a number of photographs of excerpts from the Vladimir Nabokov novel Lolita inscribed in black ink across various areas of a female's body, including her upper body, lower extremity, pelvis, and spine. Lolita tells the story of a adolescent who was exploited by a middle-aged literature professor.
One excerpt from the work inscribed across a woman's torso says, "Lolita's name: the point of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the roof of the mouth to land, at three, on the teeth".
There are also a collection of images of female passports and identification documents from nations globally, like Lithuania, Russia, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine.
Committee
A large portion of the information on the documents, like identities and birth dates, is obscured but the House Oversight Committee indicated in a statement that the passports belong to "individuals whom Jeffrey Epstein and his associates were involved with".
A further image depicts Epstein positioned at a desk intimately in the company of three women whose identities have been censored - one individual has her palm on Epstein's torso under his garment, and another individual is crouching to examine a nearby computer. Epstein can be seen to be assisting the third individual put on a wristband.
Committee
A further photo disclosed is a image of text messages from an unnamed person who states they have been provided "some girls" and are demanding "$1000 per female".
Image Publication Occurs Prior to DOJ Due Date
The panel has a vast number of photographs in its possession from the Epstein property, which are "simultaneously graphic and mundane," its press release on Thursday explained.
The Congressional committee first issued a subpoena to the holdings of Epstein, who died in a New York prison in 2019 while pending legal proceedings on accusations of sex trafficking crimes, in August.
The photos and documents the Epstein estate provided to the body are different than what is largely termed "the Epstein documents". Those files are papers within the justice department's custody associated with its independent inquiry into Epstein.
In accordance with the recently passed law, which the President enacted in November, the DOJ has until the date of 19 December to release its documents. The extent of the contents found in the DOJ's files is unclear, and it's expected that a large amount of the material will be significantly censored, similar to House Oversight Committee documents
