Followers Urge Custody of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the pop star are urging that a person who jumped a barricade and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video depicts the Australian man shoving aside camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors walked down a promenade flanked by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though legal records indicated that he was set to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a performance. His Instagram profile includes recordings of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney show in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Safety
Many fans blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed experiencing PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said another response on Instagram.
Several fans also criticised guards at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while some called for digital services to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage spreading on the internet, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of fans had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The film, to be released on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the popular theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the surprising friendship between two distinct sorceresses.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning film of the previous year in the UK, and earned a dozen award recognitions, earning several for best costume and artistic direction.
