Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on BBC
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."
