The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror with Social Deduction Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a unique game where a young woman containing several human souls inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Within her reside four distinct souls, each with their own anxieties and drives. These souls can seize control at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action unfolds within a eerie medical facility, while additional clips depict the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to other people can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to each person."

The central mechanic involves managing whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these souls will switch against your will as you play. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become amplified and assault the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their necks should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one standing might be a fake. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
