The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
