Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Honors.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of High Performance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She earned almost 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking extended hiatus following the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
