Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the popular sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 already in development—the creative team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Fan Response

Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Will the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the writers aren't taking cues by audience theories, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… with some caveats.

“There are some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
